![]()  Peridot had stayed up all night taking care of Pumpkin and playing with him, absolutely adoring their pet as much as the day they had gotten him, only a little over a month ago. Living with Lapis felt like more of a lifetime, and though it had only become friendly within the same time of having Pumpkin... it felt like forever, and she was glad to have someone close. She checked the tablet that Steven had given her and noticed that one of her packages had come... but how? Where? ... and why had it taken so long? She went outside to see if perhaps a human or gem or something would be standing there waiting to hand her the order. Instead when she peeked out of the barn door she saw a box ... where had it come from? Was it indeed her order? Mysterious... the small green gem took the box and ran inside with it, almost tripping in her excitement, little Pumpkin barking away at her feet curiously. She ripped open the box and quickly shut it again, letting out a squeal of excitement. This was another fad Steven had gotten her into after the fair, stuffed aliens were cool, of course, but stuffed animals were also cool! Apperantly they were important to humans in a way of affection and beholding, like sacred objects perhaps? She had ordered one or two for herself but this one was different, this one was special.
"Lapis!" Peridot called out as she took the object and hid it behind her back, waiting for her blue colored friend to show herself so she could 'gift' her. Of course gifts in the past that Peridot had thought were meaningful hadn't... gone so well, but those were apology gifts! This was different! Steven had said that friends do things for one another so... while this didn't have any actual benefit it still meant something. "Lapis I wanna show you something awesome!"

Back to the matter at hand, however... She didn't mind Peridot trying to get her attention that much anymore. Actually, it was kind of nice to have someone else wanting her acknowledgement. Not that she would admit it, because the other gem would inevitably get overexcited and the charm would likely wear off quickly. Lapis quite liked their routine, and was concerned when it was broken. Well, she was concerned up until...
"Lapis! Lapis, I wanna show you something awesome!"
Ah. There it was. Lapis couldn't quite keep the hint of a smile off her face, but she could certainly hide it. She closed the book she had been reading after tucking a bookmark into it neatly, and walked over to where Peridot was standing, admittedly somewhat curious. "What is it?" she asked, feigning irritation. Not that it was particularly hard to do so when not so long ago that irritation had been entirely genuine. |

![]() Peridot waited patiently for Lapis to show herself, shifting slightly on her feet with a beaming smile, her lips turned up so much that her cheeks almost ached from the guesture, something she experienced often. "On earth humans have friendship, but they view it a different way than homeworld. Of course I've started to like earth's version more, since that appears to be what we have so I thought... "Why don't I show my friendship in a human way?" She whipped out the stuffed animal from behind her back, offering it to Lapis with a slightly nervous expression, flashes of all the harsh rejections of gifts in the past eating at the back of her mind. "Humans sometimes do things for one another to show they care, little or big things just to remind one another of their 'feelings.'" She cleared her throat.
The animal was a brown and white dog with fluffy ears holding a heart in its mouth with words stitched in white on it reading, "be mine." "It's a fabricated replica of an earth dog, an appropriate use of a gift for a friend since these animals like to befriend humans, and the object in its mouth it referred to as a "heart" a sign of caring. I can't read it because Earth writing is sloppy and confusing but I'll be sure to ask Steven what it says later!" She looked down to the ground with a quick glance back up at Lapis, "We haven't been friends that long in the aspect of gem lives... but I'm glad we are and I hope we always will be."

Lapis accepted the plush creature, frowning at it. A fabricated replica of a dog? But that was washed away in her mind by Peridot's earlier words. Friendship. It wasn't like they had put a name to it before. So that thing was a 'heart'? And it symbolized 'caring'? She wasn't entirely sure how to react to that.
Rather than respond to Peridot's comment on their friendship verbally, she sttled for a smile. Hopefully that was enough for the green gem to understand. She still wasn't very good at voicing her feelings.
"I can't read it, either," she frowned, squinting at it. She could read things printed on paper, but on fabric it was a lot harder. Oh well, Peridot would ask Steven and then they would know, it wasn't that big of an issue. But... She looked closer. "Wait... It says... 'Be Mine'? What does that even mean?"
Wasn't that involved in an episode of Camp Pining Hearts? A 'heart'-shaped object that said 'Be Mine' on it? It was... Romantic, in that instance. But Peridot was going on about friendship, so she couldn't have meant it that way. Maybe if she didn't point that out, Peridot wouldn't notice and they could go on with their lives as if this whole thing never happened. |

![]() Perry was internally over joyed that Lapis didn't rip it's head off or throw it to the ground, then again those all had been apologies and such. When Lapis read the words Perry shrugged, "Be mine? ... probably means be my friend? Be my good friend?" That didn't sound right, she had heard the phrase from somewhere before but she just couldn't place it. Pumpkin barked at her for attention and Perry picked up the dog like vegetable and held him in her arms, petting him as she looked back up at her blue housemate. "Hehe, if Steven was here I'm sure he'd write a song about it." She joked, half wishing she herself could accomplish such an act. Her first song had only been a few sentences... but Steven seemed to have a natural attribute for songs.
Peridot bit her lip for a moment and tilted her head slightly to the side as he Reyes went to the ground again. "Also I've been wondering. Since we are friends ... you always see friends going out and doing things, and aside from farming or when we helped Connie with gem things we haven't had many "outings" so what if you and I went out... and did something...?" Why was this so difficult to ask?! It wasn't like she was a character in their all time favorite show trying to ask someone on a date, that would be completely different.

Lapis smiled a little. "I'm sure he would," she agreed, nodding. The mention of Steven rarely failed to bring a smile to her face. "I believe the appropriate human response to receiving a gift is... Thank you? So thank you. For the..." What had Peridot called it? A 'dog'? "The dog. It's very... Soft." She wasn't really sure what else to say about the gift, and once more held back a sigh of relief when Peridot continued.
...A friendly outing? That didn't sound too bad. As long as it wasn't somewhere too crowded, she didn't have any objections. "I don't see why we couldn't do that. What did you have in mind?" she asked, almost certain that Peridot wouldn't have asked without a plan in place.

Peridot nearly leapt for joy at the swift agreement from Lapis. This was going great so far! She opened her mouth with an expression giving away she was about to state something in a matter of fact-like tone... before her eyes widened in shock and she shut her mouth, "I... I don't know. I didn't think I'd get this far... OH- You like to read, Steven said that there was a store full of books where people go to read, we could go there? Where people read should be quiet right?" She shifted on her feet and face palmed, sighing and shaking her head, "I'm horrible at planning things."
