This is a reply for another website, but it crashed and I needed to put this somewhere.
"Natural, hmph," Adam commented, giving the ghost of a smile. "That's the most natural thing about her..." It was evident that there was more to that statement than just what he said, but he left it where he did. Faith was smart enough and in the know enough to catch what he meant. If she was not kidding about being Pamela's kid, then she most likely already knew about her power, and therefore obsession with plants. The surprise was fading by that time, slipping back into the regular, flat expression Adam always wore. The tired look that told people to stay aware.
"I see..." The consolation aroused suspicion in the obvious manner. How did one not recall giving birth? That would be strange. It had been perhaps half of Faith's life ago that they had last... collaborated on something (if one could call what they did a collaboration-- all he did was beat up a bunch of children while she coddled a mutant stalk). She could have easily not wanted Faith, but why not? Children were a blessing (unless they were, of course, that wretched Team)! By the gods, it would be so simple to just ask Zehuti, but no...
She began to say something, then stopped, her face contorting into something sorrowful. "What? What is it?" said Adam, wanting to know what exactly it was making her so upset. If it was a person, surely they would suffer at his hands for this.
"I am certain," came the swift reply. "I have no secret soft spot."
"We will have to test that theory later..." Adam quipped nonchalantly, referring to lifting Faith up with one arm.
"Just for your mother, yes. You could consider us friends... I suppose, but there has not been much talk between us since some years ago," he said, not even noticing the cold formality Faith used to refer to her guardian with. He himself was always formal, so it slipped by without a single word. "Since the Injustice League went down..."
As he spoke the last few words, he cast a glance around to see if anyone had caught what he let out. Faith could probably be trusted, but nobody else could.
